This riveting documentary tells the story of how a surprising series of racially charged high school incidents motivated members of a California community to find a way to address the root causes. Through candid interviews, honest reflection and classroom dialogues, this film models the successes and shortcomings of a real world action research high school project, Catalysts for Social Justice (CSJ). This extra curricular action research program evolved into a racially focused 11th grade history course entitled Race and Social Justice in U.S. History. The film covers this steady progress and how youth led transformation was carried back into the community at large.
Charting more than six years, “From the Community to the Classroom” documents the transformative power that youth in conjunction with adults can have on their community.
