The Sheldon Theatre Brass Band was founded in 1989 as the resident performing ensemble at the newly-restored, turn-of-the-century, T. B. Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, Minnesota. They are currently enjoying their twentieth season of music-making.
The STBB uses the instrumentation of the traditional British-style brass band and play a broad variety of musical styles. This performance was their 20th Anniversary Concert and features music written specifically for them by composer Robert Collinson, including The March of the Polished Brass: The Sheldon Main Street Strut. This is the world premier performance of this new work for brass band.
Also performed is The Waters of Tyne; Traditional, Arranged by Robert Collinson, featuring flugelhorn soloist Ken Roberts. This selection and the March of the Polished Brass were conducted by James Kurschner, the STBB's music director since 2002.
