Episode Description:
Back in April, Dr. Normand Laberge, founder of Tidalwalker Engineering, spoke to a local group at the the University of Maine at Machias. He showed plans to build a tidal power plant at Half-Moon Cove, between Eastport and Pleasant Point, Maine. He showed slides and spoke about the economic and environmental benefits of having such a plant. He estimated that in 20 years, electricity could cost as little as two cents a kilowatt hour to produce. He also spoke about some potential problems and workable solutions to those problems. Overall, a win-win for the builders, operators and residents of Washington County.
Dr. Laberge was introduced by Nancy Oden from Jonesboro. Video at Machias was shot by Roger Leisner of Radio Free Maine.
Since this show is basically about sustainability, I added a couple short clips about ways other Maine people are sharing both goods and labor. The road to sustainability can truly be built with people power.
