Episode Description:
Melanie G. Snyder, author of "Grace Goes To Prison" with conviction and passion, brings to life the troubling story of the criminal justice system. Not only an inspiring speaker, she has done much research into the criminal justice system leaving her with a determination to educate the rest of us about the misuse of incarceration and the tremendous waste of human financial resources.
Melanie explains that she works with young people who have committed crimes, assisting them to make things right with their victims. But the reconciliation can only happen if both are voluntarily willing to sit down with each other. This can only happen if the offender is genuinely remorseful and the victim is ready for healing and closure and is ready to move on with their life.
She tells the story of how restorative justice allowed Jenny, an angry victim of violent crime, to reconcile with the offender. The offender was genuinely remorseful and Jenny found healing, closure and was ready to move on with her life.
