Episode Description:

Deep Water Gulf Oil Spill - The Death of the High Seas Act only allows for $1000 in compensation per death at sea (www.marklawsf.com). The Administration closed down oil drilling throughout the whole Gulf due to the spill. However Judge Feldman wrote that the administration had failed to justify the need for such “a blanket, generic, indeed punitive, moratorium” on deep-water oil and gas drilling.
“The blanket moratorium, with no parameters, seems to assume that because one rig failed and although no one yet fully knows why, all companies and rigs drilling new wells over 500 feet also universally present an imminent danger.”
A Bart police officer shot and killed a New Year’s partygoer. The officer claimed that he thought he had pulled his taser gun rather than his pistol
