Episode Description:

On October 18, Mary Benziger and Regina Coppens, members of Partners in Health in Maine, gave presentations on the Health Partners group and how they were involved with a project that provides clean drinking water to the disadvantaged people of Nicaragua. Using the Filtron System, a very low tech and low cost method of filtering bacteria from local water is made possible. Not only is clean water provided, but a means of self-support is offered, as well. Nearly 5000 children die each day worldwide due to contaminated drinking water. Clean water can be provided to everyone in a village of 4000 for less than one tenth the cost of creating a high technology system. This proves that good things indeed can come in very small packages.
