The Blackstone Valley was built because of its abundant supply of water power – power to turn water wheels, later turbines as America began its journey towards industrialization. The Valley contains a remarkable mix of industrial and agricultural landscapes, all these elements were defined by how they used water. Deep in the woods along forgotten streams, you can still find pieces of rusting pieces of the system that brought water to the mills and their water wheels. The struggles we face today is how to keep these pieces still working, still controlling the flow of water for water continues to flow with great force through the Valley. So join us as Along the Blackstone’s Episode #65 illustrates first-hand how these 200 year water control systems still work and still needed, yet require some significant preservation efforts.
