Episode Description:

The ability of the entrepreneurial minds of Young America to create an engineered landscape of waterpower that would power their mills and turn this Young Republic into an industrial powerhouse can still be seen throughout the Blackstone Valley. Small dams or big dams creating massive headwalls of water for big streams or small streams, these very visual aspects of water power are still present reminders of America’s journey towards industrialization. Matter of fact, hydroelectric power is still being produced in some of these mills, so join us as Along the Blackstone’s Episode #35 takes on a journey following water power from its first early uses (the water wheel at historic Slater Mill) to today’s use powering sophisticated mill machinery with electricity generated by the river at the Riverdale Mill in Northbridge, MA.
