Episode Description:

On July 25th, more than a dozen artists from the Central Maine area opend their homes and their studios to the public. I visited seven of them to see their work and talk about what motivates their art. I basically asked them how the environment influenced their art and how their world view influenced their subjects and vice-versa. Their answers demonstrated to me that they were all very much in tune with their surroundings. All loved living in Maine and lived in harmony with their environment. Speaking of harmony, my last stop was in Harmony, Maine where I interviewed Wally Warren, a well-known artist from Alaska to Maine to Louisiana. Wally specialized in a hybrid Native-American and folk art that utilized objects picked from the local dumps and objects discarded by friends. While many people try to make junk out of our world, Wally tries to make a world out of junk.
