Episode Description:

In March of 2010, the Maine State Standing Committee on Health and Human Services narrowly killed a bill (LD 1706) The Children's Wireless Protection Act. If enacted, the bill would have required all cell phones sold in Maine to carry a warning that cell phones might cause brain tumors. There were many scientists from the electronics, oncology and pscychology fields who testified as to the imminent danger of long term cell phone use, especially by children. They came from Maine and as far away as the UK, California and Germany. I spoke with Representative Andrea Boland of Sanford who introduced the bill. I also spoke with electronics engineers, oncologists, researchers and wives of victims of cell phone cancer. These many experts in their fields all agreed that the bill failed, in part, because Maine's CDC Director, Dora Mills, testified that she could find no scientific data to warrant a warning on cell phones. All those experts also agreed that Dr. Dora Mills did have a tremendous amount of data available to her, yet she ignored anything that would make the cell phone industry look bad. After watching this, you will never again use your cell phone in the way you did in the past.
