Episode Description:

Stanford yet again proves itself as the leader of positive change with its out-of-the-box idea about covering heating needs of the buildings on campus with the excess of heat, removed from buildings, that needed to be cooled off and visa versa. Michael Killen, head of the California Climate Plan art and Media project, takes a deeper look into the mechanics of efficient heating and cooling, with the help of Joseph Stagner, executive director of the Department of Sustainability and Energy Management. One of unexpected side effects of new approach is water savings on 800 buildings campus as well.
Application of this idea on a big and small scale is in 100% complience with goal #3 of California's Climate Plan - to double the energy efficiency savings in existing buildings.
