Episode Description:

An apprenticeship, in the studio of Carol Schwartzott in Niagara Falls, NY, sparked Susan's interest in weaving. A move to Rhode Island created an opportunity to study Dobby and Jacquard weaving techniques. While there, Susan became a founding member of East Ferry Artisans, a retail cooperative, and developed a custom rug weaving business called Hand E. Works. Now a resident of Maine, Susan produces textiles in her Woolwich studio. Classic traditions and techniques are used to integrate Maine alpaca and wool fibers into luxurious and warm shawls and throws that are cozy and stylish. Susan shares her love of weaving by teaching in the Folk Arts Tent at Common Ground Country Fair, in her studio, and for organizations throughout Maine.
