Episode Description:

Why include creativity and improvisation as part of any music class or rehearsal? According to the National Association for Music Education, “The reason improvisation is one of the National Standards is because of its unique focus on the individual’s responsibility for the immediate creation of music.”

The Art of ... Musical Improvisation teaches students how to go off-script and play from the heart. In this webcast, students learn the specific skills needed to improvise with any instrument and any music genre.

Improvisational experts Diana Ladio and Alison Lynn show students how to “think outside the box” and express themselves in a new way. Diana and Alison, members of The Moxie Strings, have extensive teaching experience and hold degrees in music and music education. They have held music clinics in over 100 schools and have presented their research and methodologies at numerous music education professional development conferences.
