HD - Washington City - Church of the Brethren
(SD also available)

The Washington City Church of the Brethren is blocks away from the U.S. Capitol Building. It is a small church on Capitol Hill, in Washington DC, that is committed to continuing the work of Jesus: peacefully, simply and together.

As Part of that ministry, the Brethren Nutrition Program, a soup kitchen, is a ministry that has served good meals to those in need for many years. Utilizing a dedicated core of volunteers and a resource of food and produce, the Brethren Nutrition Program serves meals four days/week, Monday and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It's dependent on volunteers from the community including folks of different faith perspectives.

The congregation implemented a free ministry model, the type that goes back to its Brethren roots. Believing strongly in the "Priesthood of all believers," the congregation feels that all believers are gifted and equipped to do the ministry of the church and that each person has gifts and talents that can be shared with others. The ministry team consists of Jeff Davidson, Jennifer and Nathan Hosler. Each depends on other employment for their livelihood.

Washington City Church of the Brethren serves as the home of the Office of Public Witness for the Church of the Brethren's effort to live the peace of Jesus publicly, by being educated on issues and peace theology. It attempts to organize Church of the Brethren members and congregations to take action, advocating on Capitol Hill around issues of concern for the denomination including peace and justice including the current issues of immigration and acceptance of Syrian refugees into this country.

"Brethren Voices" host, Brent Carlson interviews Pastor Nathan Hosler as well as BVSers, Jesse Winter and Katie Furrow.
