Episode Description:
Columbus day, October 12 found two groups with different agendas holding rallies in Skowhegan Maine. The first group of about 65, both Native Americans and non-Natives gathered at Lake George to celebrate indigenous people’s culture and heritage. Among other things, they asked that Columbus day be re-designated Indigenous People’s Day. Some states and cities have already done so. At Bernard Langlais Park in downtown Skowhegan, about 35 Skowhegan residents gathered to show their support for a theme called “Skowhegan Indian Pride”. This started out to be a movement to retain ‘Indians' as the official Skowhegan sports mascot. From this show you will see some common ground and some differences between the two groups.
