Episode Description:

Water power was the key to America's successful entrance into the industrial age. Water power was created by the damming of the rivers of New England, but it is very true that when there are winners there are also losers. The anadromous fish, fish that spawn in fresh water, but live in the ocean, then return to their original birthplace to reproduce like the Atlantic Salmon, the Alewife, the River Herring and the Shad, were definitely losers. Dams still prevent these species of fish from traveling their true path. 200 years later we are still trying to correct the problem, but there is hope. Join us as we learn about practical ways to bring these fish back and see what the folks in Damariscotta, Maine have done in creating a fantastic fish ladder.
