On April 30th. the Maine Agricultural and Forestry Committee heard testimony from several dozen people about the Right to Food (LD 783) and about GMO's (Genetically modified organisms) used in food and seeds. Two of the bills were closely related (LD 991 and LD 1326). LD 991 concerned actual food using GMO's and LD 1326 basically included GMO foods AND seeds produced with GMO's. As usual, those favoring little or no regulation were the paid lobbyists for the chemical companies and food producers, those who profited financially from the use of GMO's.
