Episode Description:
On Valentine’s Day a hundred social activists showed their love for their community for the 21st year at the Randall Student Center at U of M in Augusta. Eight speakers told their stories of how they resisted the advances of huge corporations who invaded their small communities. One speaker prophetically spoke about the dangers of volatile crude oil products being delivered in defective tanker rail cars. The recent explosion of nine tanker cars on a rail line in West Virginia reinforced the fear that hazardous materials need to be governed much more carefully and with proper control. Responsibility must lie with the corporations profiting from these hazardous materials and not with the public. This group definitely does not see corporations as our friends.
