Episode Description:

This episode deals with the globalization of technology, what that means in practical terms, and how it's affecting all of our lives. The guest is Richard Dasher, Director of the US-Asia Technology Management Center at Stanford University. In addition to his work at Stanford, Dr. Dasher maintains an active consulting practice, working with governments and private companies in the US and Asia and advising them about technological trends and new business opportunities. A fluent Japanese speaker, he was the first non-Japanese person ever appointed to the Board of Directors of a major Japanese university, when he joined the Board of Tohoku University in 2004. He’s also served on the Board of several private Japanese companies, and was Director of the US State Department’s training centers in Japan and Korea in the 1980's. One of his main themes is that for countries and companies to compete in the Age of Globalization, they must constantly innovate, and he discusses the kinds of cultures that are best at producing innovation.
