Episode Description:
On March 18 at the Welcome Center in the Maine State House, The Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine hosted a roundtable discussion concerning phthalates tested in Maine people. Last year 25 Mainers from eight different counties and numerous backgrounds were tested for phthalates in their bodies. Phthalates are a group of chemicals known to cause reproductive problems, birth defects, asthma, social and cognitive disorders and more. Currently, with the exception of a few baby products, phthalates are not banned in any daily products we all use. Manufacturers are not even required to tell us if they are even in their products. Of the 25 people tested, all 25 showed various levels of the toxin in their bodies. Eight of those tested will speak about their experiences with phthalates.
