The Millennium Project ( is a global network of futurists and other thinkers operating in more than 50 different countries and trying to resolve the world’s most pressing problems. Supported by a wide variety of governments, NGOs, universities, corporations and the United Nations, the Millennium Project has defined 15 global challenges which it sees as the most important to solve. In this episode of Future Talk, we discuss two of those challenges: peace and conflict issues, and sustainable agriculture.

There are two guests. Brock Hinzmann is the chairman of the Millennium Project’s Silicon Valley Node ( He spent over 30 years at SRI International which is one of the world’s top scientific research organizations. He’s proficient in many branches of technology, is considered an expert in anticipating future trends, and describes himself as a technology navigator.

Charles Ostman is a long time participant in the Millennium Project, which was founded in 1996. He’s also Director of Special Projects at a company called General Hydroponics which he cofounded. He has broad experience in the fields of electronics, physics, and materials science, including at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley Lab, and has written extensively about the convergence of biotechnology and nanotechnology.

The show features a very lively discussion about the aims and methods of the Millennium Project, its underlying assumptions and its prospects for making real contributions to solving the world's difficulties. Martin Wasserman hosts.
