Episode Description:

New England is a living laboratory of life! Many of us who grew up in this region have no idea what magnificent diversity exists under our own noses. And once again it took my six year old son Race August Tucker with his insatiable passion to explore for me to be reminded that our insects are amazing. In this episode we stumble upon Red Legged Locusts and Praying Mantis as they devour Bumble Bee’s in a field of Golden Rod. We discover more wasps “our minor pollinators” as they graze on the bounty of pollen provided by a typical September in Southern Connecticut. As a custom with Expedition New England we skip ahead “to late October” and take you right into the heart of Sandy the super storm of the century. Thanks to the spontaneity of neighbor and friend Chris Burd we jumped on the bikes and took off to the coast where flood waters devastated the homes on Long Island Sound. Finally, I bring you eye to eye with a flock of American Black Vultures feeding on a White tailed Deer carcass on I-91 in New Haven Connecticut. This species would be more likely to be found in the Caribbean or South America!
