Episode Description:

Smartphones have proven to be an incredibly versatile platform that enables us to do a lot of things we could never do before. Julia Hoffman, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist and mobile apps lead at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she develops apps that help in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder. Nicholas Chapa is mobile team lead at the Stanford Persuasive Technology Lab, whose goal is to find ways to help people overcome destructive behavior patterns and replace them with positive and healthy ones instead. The program addresses some of the basic issues of mental health today, looks at how mobile technology can be used as a tool to alleviate some of the symptoms of mental illness, and examines possible directions of future development.
