Episode Description:

This will be the first of a possible series of five shows created from "The First Maine Grassrooots Media Conference" held at Unity College on September 10. I wanted to show details of some of the presenters. Their presentations give both everyday people and also those already in the grassroots media business, such as ourselves, very good information on how to start and develop local grassrooots news agencies and vehicles.
Future segments will relate how social media has affected local access TV and radio, the nuts and bolts of building a local Latino access show in Mass. on a shoe string, information on how citizens can exercise Maine's "Freedom of Access to Information Law", and the need for grassroots media as seen by the Maine Civil Liberties Union and The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting.

This first segment is the opening Keynote speaker, Rob Shetterly, describing how media or the lack thereof affects our democracy. Rob is the Maine artist who has painted 170 portraits of "Americans Who Tell the Truth".
